Adventure Caving Aug 04Return to Past Events page
As the hot air balloons went high into the sky at Ashton Court, four intrepid Rotaractors (with a little help from some friends) went deep down into the Mendip Hills for some 'Beginners Adventure Caving'.

Whilst we were gearing up in our overalls, hard helmets and caver's lamps, boots and karabiners, our instructor reminded us that this was not just a pleasure walk through the showcaves in a boiler suit, but a dirty and challenging adventure through a 'wild' cave system.

Our journey began at the Mushroom Chamber, with a crawl through the Sand Chamber, before we life-lined down a 40 foot steel ladder, deep into the Bauder Chamber. After more climbing, crawling and squeezing we cam to the smallest and most bendy passage way of all - the one known as 'The Nutcracker' (or as we also called it - 'The Boob Tube'). The name says it all!

Needless to say, we all survived, and all came out a little mucky, but smiling, and on an adrenalin high.

Unfortunately, our camera decided to not work and so you will have to take my word for it that we did really do this!

And for all those Rotaractors who missed out this time, don't worry - we have booked you in to try out the advanced session!
